I love to think outside the box when it comes to Mini Sessions, and Back to School Minis were no exception.

Back to School Minis were at Midtown Creative, which is this beautiful studio space in Santa Cruz, which is run by another amazing photographer and friend of mine, Alicia Telfer. And one of the coolest things about Midtown Creative is that it has so much natural light! I didn't direct this little guy on tilting his head, or looking up, but he happened to position his head to look right up towards the window. That allowed us to get all this natural light to cast along the left side of his face, which worked out perfectly for this shot.

Another amazing thing about doing sessions at the studio is that if you have little ones you can close the door, and they are in an enclosed space. I know that both my kiddos went through the stage where they were runners and would bolt with no warning, so the idea of having them in a space where they cannot run away definitely helps in this department.

But all that being said, what kind of Mini Sessions would you like to see next? I have a few ideas in the works, but nothing officially planned yet. Send me a message if you have a great Mini Session idea, I'd love to work with you to set up your dream Mini!
