I love the nostalgic feeling of using a flash. There are endless options of how you can stylistically use flash in your photography to change the tone and feeling of the image. I really like how in this image the flash highlights the bride and groom, while letting everything else, all other distractions, fall behind them.
Flash can range from looking like window light, to being bright and direct. And the creativity is endless. You can bounce a flash off the ceiling, off of a reflector, etc. or use it directly towards the subject to provide a completely different, very trendy, filmy vibe.
